Funeral Services

This is where I can help.  I will guide you through the many options you will have, what music, hymns, poems, prayers would be suitable? Do you want to have an order of service? What photos and content should be in that?

There is a lot to consider. With my help and guidance, the funeral ceremony can become a beautiful and memorable event, recognising and celebrating all that made your loved one so special and unique.

There are no hard and fast rules.  Different people have difference beliefs and different ways of showing love and respect.  I will be guided by your wishes, and I will design a service to fulfil them.

Usually, we will spend some time together, either in person or via online.  We will discuss your expectations for the funeral service, and I will answer any questions you may have.

To enable me to write a fitting eulogy, you may wish for me to meet other family members or friends.  Please feel to invite them to attend this meeting, or if you wish I can speak with them at a later time.

I will work closely with your chosen Funeral Director to make sure your wishes are fulfilled and that on the day of the funeral itself, you will have nothing to worry about.

SEMI-RELIGIOUS (CHRISTIAN) FUNERALS

Many people are not regular church goers, yet at the same time, may have faith and are spiritual.

A service that includes hymns and prayers can recognise the existence of Jesus and honour the belief structure of Christianity, but it doesn’t have to be a strictly religious service.

This type of service is ideal if your loved one was born into the Christian faith but didn’t attend church regularly.

SPIRITUAL FUNERALS

Many people are unsure of what they really believe, though hoping there is an afterlife or that their spirit will live on.

I am happy to conduct agnostic funerals and also funerals which can reflect an individual’s specific belief, whatever it may be.

These ceremonies will be personal and significant, both on behalf of the deceased and those gathered to celebrate their life.

NON-RELIGIOUS FUNERALS AND HUMANIST FUNERALS

This type of funeral service is without any mention of religion or afterlife and can be the most appropriate funeral if the deceased was agnostic or atheist.

However, you may wish to consider members of the congregation who do have religious beliefs. Therefore, it can be a good idea to include a short period of quiet reflection for those who might wish to say a silent prayer.

HOW TO CREATE YOUR BESPOKE SERVICE

To create a very special, appropriate and meaningful service, I will need to know as much as possible about your loved one and the life they lived. I can visit you, or if you prefer, we can talk over the phone, by video call or by email.  Either way, details of the following will help me write a meaningful eulogy.

• Where the deceased was born and grew up

• Details of parents, siblings and other significant family members and friends

• School days and childhood memories

• Career, places of work, Armed Forces/National Service

• Membership of groups and societies

• Interests, achievements

• Hobbies and pastimes

• Sayings, stories and anecdotes

• What will your loved one be remembered for?

• Will anyone else wish to speak at the funeral?

I am an Independent Funeral Celebrant, which means I am independent from any religious of humanist organisation.

Each funeral service that I conduct is individually written and created to honour the person who has died and to celebrate their uniqueness.

I am an excellent communicator, previously working as a radio presenter and producer for almost thirty years before embarking on a career working in the funeral industry.  I have planned and tailored funerals according to my client’s individual needs and I understand the process from the moment you lose your loved one, through to their final journey of rest.

I will be there to support that journey, every step of the way.

My fee to act as your celebrant will be £275.
